A reloader helps you make your own ammunition

3. What Is a Reloader?

Reloading shotgun ammunition refers to filling up the empty shells/casings with primer, wads, gunpowder, shot, etc. A reloader is a device that allows you to do this at home. A reloader will load the shells with slugs, buckshot, or birdshot.

Single-stage loaders: A single-stage loader produces on a shotgun shell each time you pull the handle

Progressive loaders: If you have a progressive loader, you will be able to reload multiple shells all at once

4. Advantages of Using a Reloader

There are many great advantages of using a reloader. That is why most professional-level shooters use them. Here are the main benefits:

Cost Effective: If you do a lot of hunting then being able to make your own slugs out of your used casings using a reloader is a great way to save money.

Easy to Do: Reloaders are relatively easy to use and require minimal hassle to make your own slugs.

Custom Ammo: Making your own ammunition using a reloader is not only easy to do and cost-effective, but you can also customize your ammo by adding your own unique touches. For example, you can decide how much powder you want to use. You don't have this amount of control if you are simply purchasing ammunition that is already manufactured.

Enjoyable Skill to Learn: If you like to experiment with new things, then learning how to make your own ammunition is a great skill to learn. It will also provide you with a better understanding of how bullets work and what impact the amount of gunpowder or type of casings you use has on the trajectory or accuracy of your shooting.

5. Disadvantages of Using a Reloader

Upfront Costs: There are some upfront costs to using a reloader including purchasing the equipment that you will need, however, if you do a lot of hunting, then over time you will soon recuperate those costs and save money on continuously purchasing ammunition.

Time: It does take time to make your own bullets using a reloader, however, you may find that it is an enjoyable hobby and with practice, you can improve your speed.
